The providers of CareOne Debt Relief Services®; understand how it feels to struggle with debt, because many of us, including CareOne’s founder, Bernie Dancel, have been there ourselves. Bernie struggled with debt as a young man and declared bankruptcy based on the bad advice he received. That experience motivated him to create the CareOne brand of debt relief services so that others would have better options to overcome their debt. We understand that every situation is unique and that is why we offer more than one type of plan, for customers across the country.
We speak with Missouri residents every day who are looking for help with their debt. Many of them are homeowners who have seen their property values decline in recent years. In fact, we’ve found that the number of Missouri residents contacting us for debt relief who own their own home increased 11% from 2010 to 2011 and was 7% higher than the national average. One reason for this could be the rapid increase in home values in previous years which caused many homeowners to become accustomed to using their home equity to help pay off debt. In the five years since the peak of the housing bubble, home prices have fallen an average of 38%. With the dramatic drop in home prices, those who were tapping into their equity to help make ends meet no longer had that option.
However, even though the drop in home values might be disappointing, there are still some positive aspects to Missouri’s economy as well. Both cost of living and unemployment rates are much better in Missouri than in other parts of the United States. According to the Missouri Economic Research and Information Center, in the first quarter of 2012, Missouri had the 12th lowest cost of living in the United States.1 Missouri’s unemployment rate of 7.3% was almost 1% lower than the national average of 8.2% as calculated by the Bureau of Labor Statistics in May 2012.2 Despite the good news, some Missouri residents are still working hard to try and make ends meet.
