Self Assessment Tests

What Kind of Goal Setter Are You?

When you go on a trip, you should have a specific destination in mind. To get there as easily as possible, you should look for the most direct path.

Goal setting is the same idea. Just as important as knowing what you want to do is finding out how to make it happen. Only you can know which goals fit your expectations, and only you can sketch out the perfect course to follow. Sure, you’ll come across some speed bumps and detours along the way, but you’ll get there.

Measure some of your strengths and weaknesses in determining your goals by taking this self-assessment test.

1. You think it’s better to make lots of plans rather than just a few.

2. You’d prefer things to be more spontaneous rather than follow procedures.

3. When you set out to accomplish something, you aim low so you don’t risk failure.

4. Even though you try really hard, you never seem to complete what you start.

5. You’re adept at keeping yourself motivated when your circumstances are difficult.

6. Sometimes it’s important to recognize when to stop using a plan that’s not working, or at least to reexamine your goals.

7. If your method isn’t working out, you always cut your losses and bail out.

8. If the chances are very slim that an idea will actually work, you discard it and move on.

9. You regularly put together a list of goals you’d like to achieve and put target dates next to each one.

10. Your list of goals and ambitions has both short and long-term objectives.

11. After you identify a goal, you normally divide it into smaller, more manageable tasks that lead to completion.

12. You’re getting pretty good at seeing in your mind's eye how you might overcome an obstacle.

13. Little rewards for yourself are useful incentives for accomplishing various stages of your plans.

14. The best reasons for achieving any specific goal are very personal or have some aspect you can relate to.

15. You’re fairly independent and don’t normally see the need to consult your network of friends and family in order to carry out your plans.

16. Even if you haven’t done so already, you can see the value in studying the habits of successful, goal-oriented people.

17. Keeping a journal of your wish-lists, plans and how you can carry them out sounds like a great idea, but it’s really a big hassle and a time-waster.

18. Efficient time management doesn’t have much to do with achieving what you intend to do.
