Are You Prepared for Life After College?

Yes, there is life after college, but are you prepared for it? Perhaps you’ve had experience being out on your own and working in the “real world” for a while now. Maybe not. Even if you have, and especially if you haven’t, you owe it to yourself to start thinking about some of the things you'll encounter outside of the classroom.

1. A very small percentage of U.S. students move back to their parent’s house after graduating.


2. My check book won’t always balance exactly.


3. I’m allowed by law one free opportunity to check my credit rating per year with each credit agency.


4. Retirement funding is for 20-somethings, too.


5. Resumes should have as much information on them as possible.


6. The mark-up on used cars is lower than new cars.


7. When I apply for a home loan or car loan, the lender looks at my credit score.


8. A new car will go down in value the moment I drive it off the lot.

11. US citizens always have to declare any income, no matter where or how it’s earned.


12. “Business Casual” means pretty much the same thing everywhere.


13. I really don’t need to find out about life insurance if I don’t have any dependents.


14. It’s always better to buy than to rent or lease, if I can afford it.


15. Debt is always bad.


16. I don’t need to get a driver’s license and a voter registration card since I don’t drive and haven’t voted.


17. People skills are not as essential as technical skills to most employers.


18. I won’t have to worry about tax deductions until I’m working.
