How to Go Green and Save
Money |
|
Saving
the planet might seem like a tall order,
especially when saving money is a more immediate
concern. But as it turns out, living an
eco-friendly lifestyle can actually help you to
cut costs and get on firmer financial
footing.
Switching
to energy-saving light bulbs, for example,
could shave hundreds of dollars off your
energy bill each year, while breaking the
bottled water habit can add up to thousands in
annual savings. Are you rady to go green and
save green? Follow these tips to get
started.

Quick
Tip: Eco-Friendly, Economical
Laundry
In
addition to washing and drying only when you
have a full load, keeping the lint screen in
your dryer clean, and investing in
energy-efficient appliances, consider switching
from liquid detergent to powder. Not only does
the powder version cost less; you'll
conserve water since liquid detergents are
roughly 75 percent H20. Also keep in mind that
about 90 percent of the energy used for washing
is spent heating the water, so switching from
hot to warm can cut your energy use in half.
Finally, if you iron your clothes, think about
line- or air-drying instead; a standard iron
consumes as much energy per hour as four
250-watt light bulbs.
